The Insurance Industry Person-To-Person Networking Center

I am a Bivocational Pastor who till recently built homes. Due to the economic downturn I was faced with needing to find a way to generate additional income. I was offered a job with a company I had never heard of and two long time friends in the business said, "I would go with a major company that will train you and give you good support. I took this advice and called and was hired by NYL.

So, I took the class and the test and should have my Lic. in the next day. So I am brand new. What advice and pointers would you give someone like me? What would you do if you were starting out.

Leads... do you buy them and where do you recommend.
Lists... Where do you get yours and who do you recommend.
Strategy, Marketing Plans.

Hi Scott,

I know so many VERY successful agents that love NYL and also very successful agents that came from NYL, but the point is, NYL is one of the top trainers in the industry.Stick with them till you know enough to jumo or stay with them for a great ride.

I love the ideas from the other members about talking to other pastors. "The smaller the niche, the more you get rich". Rhonda Sher has a wonderful course on referral marketing. I think her web site is www.thetwominutemarketer.com. Great stuff in getting several referrals each day from strangers! Plus,it's fun to do if you like people.

My pastor is still stalling on buying life insurance and he has seen many penniless widows and families PLUS no retirement plans for many ministers! I've referred him over and I'll badger him to get it done this month! PTL!

You can be the next Pastor Life Insurance Specialist in America! oztransfers@yahoo.com is my email.

Hi again Scott,

I just viewed a creative, funny and timely video about obtaining leads. Actually it confirmed some of the things I mentioned previously.

Go to this web site and watch, corny in the beginning and in the end, but it has great content for beginners and vets!

I recommend contacting people you know. This is a relationship business, and the insurance sales are secondary. I've bought leads (find out how many times the vendor sells the leads - you need to know that). Lists are great, but who you know is the key!

Scott,

I think that Duaine and Janet really touched on some of the main areas to generate leads as well as a general plan.

Just starting out I would really focus on becoming an expert on the products you offer, although I would begin your initial training on the other products as well. Not only with life insurance but health and other similar products. It is only a matter of time before you realize that you need to put yourself in a position to help everyone you come in contact with. Offering one product is nice at first but to really succeed in this business you have to do what is best for the client and the money will come.

The next step would be to work with companies that offer online applications so that you can use your time most effectively. Choosing reputable companies is definitely key, you want to be selling well branded products that have proven themselves in the industry.

When it comes to leads there are many factors that affect the quality of leads. Internet leads seem to be the most productive option for most agents. There are several factors that lead you to be successful with internet leads.
You have to offer several products
You have to have a good source for leads
You have to be in a position to contact the clients immediately
Working online will require you to have some type of screen sharing program

What it really comes down to is what type of return on investment you get. My agents average 1 in 10 sales, with a cost of $4-6.

Right now I would really focus on your product training as well as making sure you do what is best by the client.

Good luck,

Tory
